Artificial snowmaking only needs water and air to replicate the natural process. It does not use potable water, but industrial freshwater. The water is mostly stored in tanks and is forced through a snow cannon, which sprays the crystallised ice particles over the ground. When these particles melt, they are then absorbed back into the natural water cycle.
