Austria's cable cars and winter sport tourism are one entity. Over 70% of winter holidaymakers come to Austria to ski. The Austrian cable car industry is well known for its high quality and safety standards, thanks to the yearly investments made in safety, comfort and modernisation of the lift equipment.

The Austrian cable car industry invested 550 million euros the winter 2009, which were invested in safety, comfort and modernisation including 163 million Euro which were invested in artificial snowmaking technology.

Artificial snow production is essential for the economic survival of smaller resorts. Through the constant updating of the snowmaking machines, Austria's skiing regions can offer uninterrupted winter sports, even in seasons with poor snow fall.

As the general provider of services in the mountains, Austrian cable car companies are not only responsible for transporting passengers. A further 133 million euros are being invested in additional services such as parking, shuttle services, signage, slopes suitable for children, half pipes, and so on.
